Success at Meeting of Planning & Regulatory Panel on 18th March 2008
I am delighted to report that the Planning & Regulatory Panel unanimously approved my application for planning permission at their meeting on 18th March. I am tremendously grateful to all those who wrote letters in support or attended planning meetings. More than one councillor referred to the number of letter they had received and to overwhelming local support when speaking in favour of the application. I have no doubt that your support was a significant, perhaps even the decisive, reason for the decision of two Council committees to override the advice of the planning officer that my application be refused.
The grant of planning permission is however is only the first of many steps in the realization of the project. In particular, I still need to comply with Natural England’s requirements in respect of protected species, The protected animals in this case are 16 bats ( of common species) who use the clubhouse as a maternity roost in the summer, 1 grass snake and a couple of slow worms. The bats are the real problem as Natural England insist that the club house be demolished in the autumn (after the bats have left) and that the new club house be up and roofed by the following May in time for the bats to make use of the new roof space as a maternity roost. It is unlikely that we will be able to satisfy Natural England that our arrangements for demolition & re-construction are satisfactory by this autumn and so demolition may well have to be delayed until autumn 2009. If so the new club will not be open for business until autumn 2010 at the earliest
I hope to plan some activities at the club this coming summer, possibly putting up a tent or tents in the club grounds for service of teas etc in combination with a tennis tournament or cricket match or some such event. If anybody has any ideas or would like to join a small steering committee/ focus group for the development of the club, please let me know
Again many, many thanks for your support so far
